I Survived this !

Yes, that's my Ford Pickup at the bottom of a ravine, after it had rolled over at least twice with me in it! I survived this wreck with nothing more than bruises and scratches, by scrambling out of the passenger window (which was my only exit point out of the vehicle after it came to rest on the driver's side with me still behind the steering wheel) and dropping to the ground below. Unlike the clarity which can be seen in the light of day (when this picture was taken that next morning), this crash occurred at approximately 9:00 pm at night, out in the middle of the wilderness, with no one around for miles. I fumbled around in the dark before climbing up the hill onto the dirt road and beginning the walk out of the wilderness area...I walked in the dark for about 4-5 miles before finally catching a cell phone signal and then called for my son John and wife Kim to come and pick me up and was in the Emergency Room of the local hospital by about midnight that night. Thanks for your help, John and Kimberly! What happened? Mechanical Failure! I guess that is why the acronym F.O.R.D. has come to be known as Fix Or Repair Daily? While negotiating an easy curve at no more than 15 mph (with a freshly-killed 3 point buck in the bed) the steering went out!...my front tires remained dead-on straight, despite my frantic turning of the steering wheel and the truck simply dived right over the edge of a cliff! Go to hell, Ford Motor Company! but Thank God, I'm alive, uninjured, (other than being really sore all over) and ready for another day!

Yosemite Valley at Dusk

This is the latest oil painting which I've just completed (August 2008). Entitled "Yosemite at Dusk" (oil on canvas). It is the largest canvas I've painted on, to date, measuring 22" by 28" (un-framed).

John's 21st birthday

John turned 21 years old today! Happy birthday, John!...you are now legal to drink in the bars and can purchase a handgun. The last vestiges of society hampering you from becoming a full participant in the adult world are gone. No time for partying, though. Must get up at 5 am tomorrow so that you can make it to UC Davis for a Final Exam first thing in the morning...that sucks!

Burney Falls

Burney Falls (oil on canvas - March 2008). Yet another beautiful location I have been privileged to live near.

Sierra Mountain stream in Winter

Sierra Mountain stream in Winter (oil on canvas - March 2008).

Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii

Kilueau Volcano (on the Big Island of Hawaii). Oil on canvas - completed March 2008. Another location where I have lived in the past; just 10-15 miles down the road from this volcano! I have vivid memories of the night sky being lit up by the flaming lava, a faint orange glow keeping the darkness at bay throughout the entire night. A once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Sutter Buttes across the Sacramento River

Sutter Buttes across the Sacramento River (Oil on canvas). Finished February 2008. A depiction of the Sutter Butte mountain range as viewed across a small section of the Sacramento River. This is an actual location no more than 15 miles from where I live!

Black Butte

Black Butte. Oil on canvas (completed January 2008). A depiction of a prominent rocky outcropping just to the west of Orland, California. First oil painting I've undertaken in over 30 years!
